Dr. Peter Rujuwa has devoted 37 years to traditional Shona stone carving. Born in Zimbabwe’s eastern highlands, his sculptures now grace international museums and private collections worldwide.
As an ordained minister with advanced degrees in Organizational Leadership and Community Psychology, he brings spiritual and scholarly depth to ancient carving traditions. From his Indianapolis studio, Dr. Rujuwa bridges Zimbabwean heritage with contemporary expression.
His philosophy: reveal the potential that already exists within both stone and people. Each sculpture channels the spiritual essence the Shona believe dwells within stone, proving that true artistry transcends borders through reverent listening.
From Dr. Rujuwa’s hands flows not only masterful sculpture, but the sacred knowledge that has shaped four exceptional apprentices. Each brings their own vision while honoring the ancient dialogue between artist and stone that their master has perfected over nearly four decades.
